Anaerobic Digestion

Anaerobic digestion is the natural biological process whereby organic material, known as feedstock, is broken down by micro-organisms and converted into energy. This energy, known as biogas, is comprised of carbon dioxide and methane.

What are the benefits?

Landfills are well known contributors to greenhouse gases that destroy the environment. By diverting large amounts of organic waste from landfill to anaerobic digestion, we are able to reduce levels of CO2 going into the atmosphere. Produced from a variety of widely available organic feedstock, biogas decreases dependence on fossil fuels. The process creates a high quality fertiliser that can be recycled back into the local environment.
